I finally gave in. After years of badgering from my other half, I found myself winging my way across the pond to Disney. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good theme park, I just don’t like the whole Disneyfication of stuff. Plus I hate princesses (you have to remember I have a five year old princess of my own!). So it was with some reserve that I found myself making the trip across the famous man made lake towards the Magic Kindgom.
And you know what, I liked it… well, some of it. It wasn’t as quite as plastic as I’d imagined. I danced in the parade, watched the fireworks with awe and rubbed shoulders with Tinkerbell. I saw a pack of giraffes run across a prairie in Animal Kingdom and beat Zurg on the Buzz Lightyear ride. I rode Star Tours five times, and watched my mate’s little boy undergo Padawan training and fight Darth Vader with a light saber. Not too shabby. Course, I’ll never do it again. Once was quite enough.
But, apart from Disney, Florida is home to the Kennedy Space Centre (which was just awe inspiring), the beautiful palm fringed Clearwater Beach and of course, Universal Studios – THE best theme park. Forget Disney, Universal is king. The Harry Potter stuff was brilliant, the Hulk was the best roller coaster I’ve ever been on and the Spiderman ride was awesome. And did I mention the frozen marguerites?
So that’s my holiday for 2012 all done and dusted. Can we go somewhere with culture next year?

Jaye Cole | Tux and Tales Photography - You should have insisted on little paper umbrellas in your slushie cocktails. Sigh….. looks so warm…..
Louise Holgate - Im with you on the Disney and princes thing so it’s interesting to read your take on it. My five year old hasn’t got into Disney yet so well see whether I ever face the same dilemma! I like the sound of those frozen margaritas though…
Catherine - After a week back in cold, grey, miserable England… (and I’m not just talking about the weather)… I am missing that Disney magic – that holiday was my best happy fix ever!
Catherine - PS Frozen marguerite may never taste the same….
